 Disaster Preparedness Core Competencies for Healthcare Workshop

 

February 1 & 2,  2011 

Disaster Management Consultants, Inc.  presents a two day Disaster Preparedness Workshop designed to meet hospital ASPR grant training program requirements. See workshop training details below:

Day 1: Core Competencies Train-the Trainer  

Training Objectives:

1. The participant will meet all of the "Mid-Level Competencies listed within the resource document  "Core Competencies for Disaster Preparedness" (ASPR contract Part B.2 Training Priority #1, a)

2. The participant will be equipped to teach courses. Training material provided to participant on CD for use and duplication. (ASPR contract Part B.2 Training Priority #1, d)

Core Competencies Train the trainer topics include: 

·         Awareness (Common core competencies for all hospital personnel)

·         Hospital Community Interface

·         Hospital Incident Command System -base knowledge and your role  within HICS

·        Demonstrate use of Primary and Secondary Communications Equipment

·         Recognize injuries and Illness associated with natural and man-made events

·         Recognize signs and symptoms of CBRNE events

·         Behavior effects on persons as a result of disasters

·         Knowledge of mass casualty triage processes

·         Knowledge of processes/procedures for supporting special needs populations

·         Knowledge and use of PPE

·         Knowledge and ability of handling contaminated items including personal property,  evidence and chain of custody procedures

·         Indentify and use key resource and reference materials

 

Day 2: Operational Level Disaster Preparedness

Training Objectives

1. The participant will convey increased ability to assist the hospital to develop, maintain, and improve operational readiness (ASPR Contract Part B.2 Training Priority #3 a)

2. The participant will voice improved understanding of the specified target capabilities including:

  • Partnerships/Coalitions Memorandums of Understanding (Karen Ketchie, DMC)
  • Interoperable Communications (Tim Ketchie, DMC)
  • Fatality Management (Larry Bedore, FEMORS Commander)
  • Medical Evacuation Case Study (Jim Kendig, VP HealthFirst, Inc)
  • Patient Tracking/Bed Availability (Dana Shropshire, Navy; Cpt. Tim Devin, Jax Fire-Rescue Div.)

Schedule:Tuesday February 1 from 9 am - 5 pm

                 Wenesday  February 2 from 9 am -5 pm      

Target Audience:     

The workshop is designed for persons who manage or desire to gain better understanding of the planning and operations of disaster preparedness, community integration, hospital decontamination teams and interoperable communications. The target audience includes

  • Hospital: administrative, emergency management, safety and security professionals of clinics,
  • County/state level grant management staff: for process understanding and  validate requirement expectations
  • County/state EM, EOC staff: Gain understanding of healthcare perspective during emergencies and learn operational focus of other states and agencies.

 Faculty: In additional to the experienced faculty at Disaster Management Consultants our guest speakers include Florida based subject matter experts with detailed knowledge and experience in disaster preparedness and response.

Lunch will be provided during both days of the event.

Nurses: 12  Contact Hours will be provided by the Disaster Management Consultants, Inc. an accredit­ed provider of continuing nursing education.

Disclosure and Conflict of Interest Resolution: All conflicts of interest of any individual(s) in a position to control the content of this CME activity will be identified and resolved prior to this educational activity being provided.  Disclosure about provider and faculty relationships, or the lack thereof, will be provided to the learners.

 

 Cancellation Policy: Refunds will be made only if written notice of cancellation is received prior to January 19, 2011.  All refunds will deduct 25% of the registration fee.  After this date, no refunds will be made.  If the course is cancelled due to insufficient registrations, a full tuition refund will be made
